Cayenne Pepper
by Marvin Hall Jr. · Mon Jul 09, 2012 10:49 AM

I carry an array of spices with me when Im out on the trail or any wooded area.  They can even be seen in alot of my survival kits.  The one Im gonna focus on for this thread though is Cayenne Pepper.

High In Vitamin A

Vitamin B6

Vitamin E

Vitamin C

Roboflavin

Potassium

Manganese

Cayenne Pepper is good for alleviating allergies, muscle cramps, improving digestion, gives more pep and energy, and helps wound healing with minimal scar tissue.  Its good for heartburn, morning sickness, and you can even gargle it to alleviate a sore throat.

Not to mention....it makes your food awesomely spicy! :)

Mmmm love cayenne. I love spicy food in general! lol. I often like to take a bottle of hotsauce like Frank's Redhot or Lousianna Hot Sauce or sometimes Tobasco out in the bush with me. If something isn't all that tasty it sure helps get pass choking it down. Worms, they taste kinda' like pork rinds if you add a little hotsauce. mmm

I saw the video of your camping with your "spice" kit, did you buy it or make it?

Spices like the ones I carry not only make food taste better but they carry nutritional and medicinal purposes. Its good to have a spice kit.

I use the little GSI double sided shakers and I carry salt, pepper, cayenne and a blend of onion/garlic powder.  Mostly for flavour reasons but its good to know any medicinal qualities they might have.

Funny you mention this.  I own 2 of these....1 hold salt, pepper, cinnamon, thyme, cayenne and sage.  the other one holds garlic, sea salt, paprika, basil, smokey rub and a bit of meat seasoning.

Salt, Pepper, Cajun Seasoning and Cholula = I'm set.

Good tips on the uses of the cayenne pepper though!

I asked my father to plant a hot pepper plant in his garden for me. He planted 4 cayenne plants. I now have about 400 cayenne peppers. I am going to make them into a hot pepper paste that can be canned or frozen.

Use empty Tic Tac boxes for your spices. Light and stacks together nicely.

Black pepper

Lemon pepper

Cayenne powder

Chili powder

Garlic, minced dehydrated

Salt

Montreal Steak Seasoning

Also, I like to take along the holy trio of cajun cooking. Onion, three pepper mix, and celery. All dehydrated and ready to go where you go.

You can make just about anything you may gather from the wild taste good.

Add tomato powder, cheese powder, gravy mix, lentils, rice, instant milk, corn meal, Jerky, powdered egg, and you can still eat good if there is nothing to be found.

Sorry guys, got a little caried away.
